February, 27, 2024, surrounded by her family, in the comfort of her
home.

Lorraine was born August 19, 1932, to Raymond and Hildred Nash in New York.

She
married George R. Meyer, celebrating 58 years of marriage, upon his
passing in 2012. Together they had traveled and worked around the globe.

To
chronical her life would involve writing a small novel, something we
had often suggested that she do! Many will remember her successful

register booklet, typed at the hand of Ned Parker himself. The register covers a
period of 1893 -1930! Included are photos and comments that may not
have been in the original record, but add much for anyone reading now.

The register contains weather notations, musings on local happenings,
details of visits from locals and people from afar, building updates and
repairs, remembrances of celebrations, and accounts of day to day tasks
and meals. It reads as a who is who of the Farmington, NH community
during the four decades it covers.

View the booklet and photos in the museum here.

Kyle Leach, Curator
Of course that building is now the Municipal Office for the Town of Farmington.

Please note, the first file in the museum listing is a photo of the cover, the second is an encapsulated Zip file with an EXE that will open an interactive flip book of the yearbook upon download, and the last file is a PDF version. The article went on to say that Farmington's seventh annual Town Fair, organized by the Farmington Jaycees, would be held for four big days, August 20-23, at the 500 Boy's Club Field. The events listed for Friday included a greased pig contest for children 7-14. The day was to end with fireworks at 10:30 PM. Saturday began with an "Anything Goes On Wheels Race". Main Street from School Street to the corner of Mechanic Street was blocked off. This contest was the same as a soap box derby except the contestants could use anything that could roll down the hill and stop on its own (no motors). There was a dog show with open competition at 11:30. A father and son wheelbarrow race was at 2:00 PM. A mother/daughter egg toss was at 2:30. The team that could toss the egg the furthest without breaking won. At 3:00 there was a watermelon eating contest for kids only. For the adults there was a pie eating contest at 4:00. We were almost able to fill up the second floor of the Goodwin Library.
There were lots of appetizers and hand food for the potluck. We did
conduct a meeting after the social as we had a quorum of members.

I created a presentation for the event and, as the Curator of the Museum of Farmington NH History,
spoke about our many recent acquisitions & staples of the
collection not covered in the last presentation, and the archiving work
that has been going on to update both our physical space and online
museum. The presentation lasted about an hour and a half, with
questions. I tried to focus on women in Farmington, NH as the event was
held just after Women’s History Month.

Most properties had disposal areas or pits where used items would be disposed of. The are both large group photographs depicting the entire band in front of the Old High School on Main Street, now altered to be the Farmington Municipal Offices building. this part of the donation is significant as they directly tie to the Gibbs family and though one photo has a pre-made key as part of the photograph, which our museum artifact has, the other has a hand written key that our version in the museum does not include.

These were perfect additions to the museum, surrounding the Gibbs family, and we are very grateful to Marshall Gibbs Jr. for donating these items to the Museum of Farmington NH History

Kyle Leach, Curator
The booklet starts with a drawing of the bank. Next, the booklet has a list of officers, directors, and cashiers. The following page offers an early history.

The early history reads:

EARLY HISTORY THE FARMINGTON NATIONAL BANK is the out growth of a State Bank which was organized some time previous to January 1, 1855, such records as are available not giving us the exact date. Over three-quarters of a century have elapsed since that time and volumes might be written on the changes which have taken place in the Town and also in methods of banking. We find that back in April and May of the year 1872, Citizens' Meetings were held to give consideration to the organizing of a National Bank. As a result of these meet- ings, G. W. Herring and Charles W. Thurston proceeded to Washington for the purpose of obtaining permission to organize, and this authority was given under date of May 15, 1872. Under date of June 3, 1872, Articles of Association were adopted, and a Board of nine Directors elected. The following men were elected to the Board: G. W. Herring, John H. Barker, Alonzo Nute, Charles Talpey,]. F. Cloutman,H. B. Edgerly, C. W. Thurston, Martin L. Hayes and Edwin Wallace. The Directors then chose the following officers: G.W. Herring, President, J. F. Cloutman, Vice-President, and Thomas F. Cooke, Cashier. The certificate of organization was sworn to before Daniel W. Edgerly, Notary Public, under date of July 19, 1872, and sent to Washington upon receipt of which a Charter was granted by Honorable John Jay Knox, Comp- troller of the Currency, under date of July 27, 1872.

The booklet continues with photos of of the old bank and the new bank buildings. It offers a short service statement and then outlines each department, for a total of six departments. the booklet concludes with full page photos of the bank president, vice president, cashier, and director.

View the full brochure in the online Museum of Farmington NH History

We are very thankful to have this wonderful representation the add to the collection at the Museum of Farmington NH History.

Kyle Leach, Curator
Lots of
donations and many inquires. Sharon and I have been able to accomplish
much, even though the society has not meeting. Most of the museum work on
her end has been sorting and identifying objects, although she did all the work involved with the history in the case downtown. A tremendous undertaking. My work has been a mix
of identification, sorting, online museum work, communication, and research.

We had a marvelous find while sorting through some of the Thayer
donation. That donation is enormous and many of the boxes are filled
with letters, notes, and calling cars, in envelopes, boxes and boxes of
them. So you have to go through each one to determine if it is something
relevant that needs to be preserved. It is tedious work.

Sharon was
sorting through them one morning and pulled out a beautiful tintype photograph of
Lucy Dodge! She’s the most well known person of color in the Farmington
NH historical record. She is the only black woman mentioned in the
original record ,that I know of, and unfortunately we did not have any
photos of her in he museum collection. I was resigned to never know what she looked like. It's in extremely good condition considering the age.

It’s a
remarkable find on so many fronts! I'm so happy this is now part of the museum collection.

See this item in the Museum of Farmington NH History.

Kyle Leach, Curator
father retired, the family moved to Farmington, NH where Dottie’s
grandfather owned a 340 acre farm. Dottie graduated from Cedar Crest
College in Allentown, PA in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

After graduation, she worked as a research supervisor in the Department
of Orthopedic Surgery at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston under a
grant administered by Harvard University. In 1970, she accepted a
position with Tufts University at New England Medical Center in Boston,
now Tufts Medical Center.

Because of her parents' failing health, Dottie
moved back to her family’s Farmington home in 1990 and resigned from
Tufts in 1991. Since the death of her parents, Dottie has taken care of
the farm’s buildings and property. During her custodianship, she
